Last week, a friend messaged me and asked, “how can we be positive in an ugly world?” I love this question, but I’m not sure you all will love the answer. The truth is, the world isn’t ugly; we just choose to perceive it that way.

WHATTTTTTT

I know, right? Mind-blowing. There is always stuff going on in the world, and there always has been. You are just more aware of it now. We have television, phones, social media, etc. We are constantly seeing and sharing fearful things. Why? Because fear gets us going. When we hear about something that elicits fear, sadness, or anger, we immediately share that with someone else. We go to Barbara down the street and say; did you read the article about such and such? What an awful world we live in, and have you seen gas prices?

Fear spreads like wildfire, and we allow it too. There is beauty and positivity out there. We just have to choose to look for it. Which brings me to the real question here; how can we shift our perception of the world to a positive one?

If something goes “wrong” in the world or in my personal life I often think of the quote above: “if you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” So I ask myself, is there a solution, or can I fix this? Sometimes, I can come up with a solution. In the few instances that I can’t, I feel my feelings, and then I change my attitude. I take a deep breath, and say this to myself: “I am willing to see this differently,” and I look for something to be grateful for.

I am willing to see this differently.

Believe it or not, gratitude is the easiest way to change perceptions. It can be as simple as being thankful for the air you’re breathing, that your heart is beating, or that you can smell the roses. There is truly so much beauty in the world, and seeing it starts with a shift in perception. Look for more beauty in the world and appreciate it. This world has so much to offer besides ugly; it just needs more people like you to notice it. Much love yall.

xx
